Education and Learning
Jack and Jill’s Day Nursery implements the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework into everyday practice. The EYFS sets standards for the learning, development and care of children aged from birth to 5 years. All schools and OFSTED registered early years providers have a legal requirement to follow the EYFS framework.
The EYFS supports an integrated approach to Early Learning and Care. It gives all professionals a set of common principals and commitments to deliver quality early education and childcare experiences to all children. As well as being the core document for all professionals working in the Foundation years, the EYFS gives parents and carers confidence that regardless of where they chose for their Childs early education, they can be assured that the same statutory commitments and principles will underpin their Childs learning and development experience.
At Jack and Jill’s Day Nursery children are allocated a key worker when they join. The key worker is responsible for the key children’s learning journeys and experiences, making sure that their development is stretched and their interests are followed. We operate an iPad system where we carry out the children observations through a software called 2 build a profile. This links the characteristics of learning and all the early years foundation stage development goals to the observations as well as having a picture alongside to capture the children’s experiences. The learning journeys go with the children as they move through the nursery as they get older older and are a great keep sake for parents.
We encourage outdoor play at least twice a day if not more. During the summer and milder months we carry out free flow play from our rooms to the garden. We have fabulous outdoor space for the children to explore, we grow our own flowers, fruit and vegetables and enjoy leaving carrots out for the rabbits. We have different outdoor equipment such as bikes, soft play, sand pits and water trays as well as a climbing frame and slide. We have 2 smaller gardens leading from our under 2’s room with soft flooring and grass to ensure they also are in a safe and stimulating environment.
